‘‘Above all, we speak to people’s identities by offering them different options and to me, that is life changing’’

About lmk

La Maison Komando (LMK) is a Canadian based fashion startup founded in 2021 making gender-specific, stylish and sustainable underwear for anyone who identifies as a woman as well as a range of high quality streetwear-style clothing for everyone invoking a message of freedom to be oneself. The brand not only fills a lack of representation in the fashion industry but also offers smart and sustainable options from design to marketing to the reuse of some of its products.

LMK is owned and operated by Murielle Bien-Aimé, entrepreneur since the age of 12 when she started her very first business; a homework help, writing and social intervention company for students of different academic levels for about 10 years. She then obtained her real estate broker's licence in 2011. However, over the years, her passion for design and visual arts never disappeared.

Since her teenage years, Murielle has always worn more masculine underwear. So she shopped in the men's section.

Talking to women like her, who prefer this aesthetic, fit and comfort but who are also looking for quality above all, she realized that women have gotten accustomed to wearing underwear that's not adapted to their body or needs.

Why wouldn't you find quality androgynous women's underwear designed by women in the traditional women's underwear section? Why compromise when buying them?

In 2021, in the midst of a pandemic, she decided to take sewing and fashion design classes in order to design what would become her business. It is by wanting to remedy the absence of a product that so many women consume regularly and by wanting to fill a lack of representation of women like her, women of color from the LGBTQ+ community that she created LA MAISON KOMANDŌ.
